Newly inaugurated chairman of Delta State Football Association, Godwin Adode, has been accorded a rousing reception in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area, by his kinsmen, friends and political associates.

Adode, the immediate past chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, who is fondly called ‘Coach Tete,’ was widely described by the kinsmen as “a grassroots mobilizer, who will add value to football administration in Delta.”

The trio of Benjamin Umukoro, Friday Okpe and Madam Ochuko Ovwoba, while speaking with journalists at the civic reception held in his honour on Monday, noted that “Adode’s election as the chairman of DFA would bring more development to the community.”

They commended the governor of Delta State, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for considering their son worthy of being the chairman of the DFA.

They averred that the Ekiugbo/Ododegho road was awarded during the administration of Governor James Ibori at the cost of N1.8 billion, “but was abandoned until Hon. Godwin Adode used his good offices as the executive chairman of Ughelli North LGA to influence the road into Delta State budget during Governor Okowa’s administration.”

They said, “Adode’s tenure brought a lot of development to the community; he brought a health centre, he built a secondary school for the community, he built and commissioned a water project for the community, and gave employment to indigenes of the community.

“He made the sons and daughters of the community as head of the various departments in the council area; he made us feel the impact of the Peoples Democratic Party, and the dividend of democracy in the community.”

Adode, in his address at the event, highlighted what the people of Delta State and Nigerians as a whole should expect under his administration as the chairman of Delta Football Association.

He said his office “will outline the youth football programme in the state.”

“We will develop the youths and go back to the drawing board to discover more talented youths out there.

“My office will work with the incoming Commissioner for Sports and corporate bodies to develop the sport in Delta State.

“It is painful that Delta State did not have players in the nation’s U-17, U-20, and Super Eagles.”

Calling for sustained unity among the sons and daughters of the community, Adode warned “against politics of hatred and pull him-down syndrome,” allegedly perpetrated by some supposed leaders in the council area.
