Lawmakers and traditional rulers among other stakeholders in Delta North senatorial district have endorsed the creation of Anioma State, being championed by Senator Ned Nwoko.
The stakeholders gave their endorsement at an enlarged Anioma Summit held in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
Convener of at the summit and the senator representing Delta North at the upper chamber of the National Assembly, Senator Ned Nwoko, said that the first governor of Anioma State, if created, would come from Ndokwa nation.
He said, “Let me tell you, I don’t want to be governor of Anioma if created. I’m only concerned about the freedom of my people. The first governor of Anioma State will come from Ndokwa nation.
“Ndokwa nation is the most backward among the Aniomas and despite having the oil, and gas, their rivers are polluted. They have been neglected over the years.
“And you know, of course, I cannot be deputy governor. I want to let you know that the pushing for the creation of Anioma State is not a political party issue, whether Peoples Democratic Party, All Progressives Congress, or Labour Party, we are all in the struggle.”
Nwoko emphasized that let Anioma State be created first, stressing that it can be accommodated in any geopolitical zone.
Affirming his support for the creation of Anioma State, the member of the House of Representatives, representing the Aniocha/ Oshimili federal constituency, Mr Ngozi Okolie, said that there are a lot of benefits if Anioma State is created.
Also speaking, the immediate passed lawmaker representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani federal constituency, Mr Nicholas Ossai, noted that he had long ago signed for the creation of Anioma State.
Traditional rulers from the Anioma nation, including Dein of Agbor kingdom, Obi Keagborekuzi I, maintained that the agitation for the creation of Anioma State should not be politicized, but rather taken as a collective dream of all Aniomas due to the long-term benefits that will accrue.
They paid glowing tributes to all those, living or dead, who have in no small way, ensured that the dream of creating an Anioma State, within the Nigerian federation, becomes a reality.
