Former President Barack Obama, former First Lady Michelle Obama and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff are among the speakers scheduled for the second night of the Democratic National Convention, while organizers are pledging changes to try to prevent delays.

The first night’s lineup ran into delays, to the point that President Joe Biden’s speech got pushed out of primetime on the East Coast, and finished after that key time period in the Central time zone. The delays occurred even as some parts of the lineup, including a performance by James Taylor, were scrapped.

Alex Hornbrook executive director of the Democratic National Convention Committee, said that they made “some real-time schedule adjustments last night” and that they were making some “other adjustments this evening, including beginning at 5:30 to make sure that we stay on track for that tonight.”

Other speakers include Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Mesa Mayor John Giles. There also will be a ceremonial roll call among the delegates.

“We had a lot of people who were very excited to talk about Joe Biden’s record and Kamala Harris and Tim Walz’s visions, and so we made some real-time adjustments to the program,” Hornbrook said. “Our program team is working very hard right now to ensure that we can be on schedule, but also make sure that the program reflects the broad and deep and wide diverse coalition support around Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.”

He declined to say yet whether Taylor would be rescheduled.

Ana Navarro will serve as host of this evening’s proceedings.
