Denzel Washington is taking on a new role: he’s a minister! The 69-year-old actor became a minister after claiming that actors “can’t talk” about religion in Hollywood. The Gladiator II star was baptized and received his minister’s license in New York City’s Kelly Temple, as confirmed by Archbishop Christopher Bryant in a Facebook post. Keep reading to find out more… “We celebrate the addition of Minister Denzel Washington into the clergy, having received his minister’s license in the Church of God in Christ today, in a truly uplifting moment,” he wrote, noting that Denzel wore the white robe because “in the same service, he received water baptism.” He went on to say that the Kelly Temple is “a place close to [Denzel’s] heart” as he “attended the church as a child and testified to being filled with the Holy Spirit after visiting another church” with Richard Townsend in the 1980s. “It took a while, but I’m finally here,” he said during the ceremony, according to the Archbishop. “If [God] can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you. The sky literally is the limit.” He had recently explained that he was no longer afraid of talking about religion, via Esquire. “I know now. God is real. God is love. God is the only way. God is the true way. God blesses. It’s my job to lift God up, to give Him praise, to make sure that anyone and everyone I speak to the rest of my life understands that He is responsible for me. When you see me, you see the best I could do with what I’ve been given by my lord and savior. I’m unafraid. I don’t care what anyone thinks. See, talking about the fear part of it—you can’t talk like that and win Oscars. You can’t talk like that and party. You can’t say that in this town. I’m free now,” he said. See the post..
