Deonna Purrazzo never forgets about her losses inside the squared circle.
All Elite Wrestling‘s Deonna Purrazzo recently sat down with Brad Norton of Dexerto. When asked if she has anyone in mind that she’d like to face later this month at Forbidden Door, Purrazzo made it known that she’d like to get some revenge on Mayu Iwatani.
“I hold grudges,” Deonna Purrazzo admitted. “[Mayu] Iwatani has always been phenomenal. We got to wrestle a bit when I was in STARDOM, also way back in the day she beat me in the Ring of Honor tournament to crown a women’s champion at the time. She kicked me out of the tournament back then, and I hold a grudge, so that would be amazing.”
With two women’s matches already announced for this month’s pay-per-view, it remains to be seen if AEW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling will be interested in adding a third.
CEO vs. Virtuosa?
Last year, Purrazzo told Jeremy Lambert and Joel Pearl of Fightful’s In The Weeds that Mercedes Moné was also one name she’s wanted to face. Purrazzo called that a dream match, but said it would be fun to revisit her history with Iwatani.
“Obviously the first person everyone thinks about is Mercedes Moné,” Purrazzo said. “That is a dream match of mine, for years now. So I think if that is an opportunity, I would be remiss to not be like, ‘Yes, that’s what I want, that’s what I need.’ So I don’t know. But she hasn’t had the championship match with Mayu [Iwatani] yet.
“If Mayu wins, I’ve been in a match with Mayu. Mayu beat me at Ring of Honor to challenge for the-then Women of Honor Women’s Championship, so there’s some history there that could be really fun to revisit if Mayu ends up defeating Mercedes.”
