The Zonal Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi East, Suleman Omika, is dead.

Omika, who replaced Nasir Agbodu a few months ago as the zonal chairman of the ruling party, was hale and hearty until Friday when he died.

News of his sudden demise filtered in on Friday night, leaving his political associates, friends, family members, and well-wishers in shock.

The state chairman, Abdullahi Bello, confirmed his death to our correspondent on the telephone and said that the Deputy Governor, Joel Oyibo, informed him.

“Yes, it’s confirmed, the deputy governor called to inform and commiserate with me as I am currently in Lagos to commiserate with the Lagos State APC Chairman, who lost his wife,” he said.

When contacted, a family member told our correspondent that “he was just resting in his compound in Lokoja when he started calling for help as he was loosing strength, he died instantly.”

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Kogi State,  Joel Salifu, has expressed shock over his sudden passing.

A statement issued on Friday by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Unubi Emmanuel, noted that the Deputy Governor described the news as “both shocking and devastating”.

He highlighted his exceptional character as “a gentleman who served the party diligently, contributing significantly to the growth and success of the APC in the zone”.

The deputy governor emphasised that the late Omika’s absence would be felt.

He acknowledged his contributions to the growth and prosperity of the state.

The late Omika was born on October 1, 1980, in Oduh Ogboyaga, Dekina Local Government Area, Kogi State.
