EXCLUSIVE: Dermot Mulroney (Anyone But You) and Tony Shalhoub (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) are the newest additions to Amazon MGM Studios‘ crime thriller Play Dirty — the first project based on Donald E. Westlake’s Parker crime fiction novels, written under the pseudonym Richard Stark, to emerge from a pact between the studio and Team Downey in 2022.

The actors join an ensemble led by Mark Wahlberg, which also so far includes LaKeith Stanfield and Rosa Salazar. Details as to the roles they’re playing are under wraps.

Directed by Shane Black, Play Dirty centers on professional thief Parker (Wahlberg), who after being double-crossed and left for dead, sees his hunt for revenge bring with it a shot at the biggest heist of his career. But even with the help of his partner, actor-slash-con artist Grofield (Stanfield), he’ll still need to outsmart a South American dictator, the New York mob and the world’s richest man if he hopes to stay alive.

Scripted by Black, Charles Mondry and Anthony Bagarozzi, the film is produced by Jules Daly and Marc Toberoff. Exec producers are Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey for Team Downey, Black, Mondry, Bagarozzi, and James Skotchdopole. Ezra Emanuel serves as co-producer.

Last seen in Sony’s rom-com Anyone But You, which has slow-played its way to over $151M at the global box office, Mulroney has also been seen of late in films including Scream VI, as well as indies Breakwater and Ruthless. Also known for turns in films like My Best Friend’s Wedding and August: Osage County, his TV credits include Marvel’s Secret Invasion, HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones, Arrested Development, and ABC’s Station 19, to name just a few. Mulroney is represented by Paradigm.

Recently earning Critics’ Choice and SAG Award nominations for the Peacock TV movie Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie, which has him reprising his beloved detective role from USA Network’s Monk, Shalhoub was previously seen starring in all five seasons of Amazon’s award-winning comedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Also seen recently in Eva Longoria’s directorial debut Flamin’ Hot, he’s also appeared in Nurse Jackie, the Men in Black franchise and much more, and is repped by CAA and Bill Skrzyniarz at Skrzyniarz & Mallean.
