The announcement made by Didier Deschamps last Wednesday on the 1 p.m. news on TF1 is not trivial, far from it. The coach of the France team since 2012 is under contract with the FFF until the 2026 World Cup in Canada, the United States and Mexico and his departure was (already) obvious after a long reign of 14 years . But “La Dèche” himself formalized his future end of career, weakening at the same time his position at the head of the Blues, due to the XXL wait aroused by the probable taking office of Zinédine Zidane.
Rolland Courbis has a rather astonishing analysis of Deschamps’ announcement. The former coach, now a consultant on RMC, believes that it will be a resignation for DD in 2026… “Will it be the same Didier Deschamps? The relationship with Kylian Mbappé, the relationship with a possible return of Griezmann. Is all this possible with Didier who has just announced to us that in a year and a half he will resign? It’s the end of his contract, but we’re playing with words! In a year and a half, he resigns »he said in The Big Mouths of Sport on RMC. As if Deschamps would have had the choice to stay in post after the North American World Cup…
Deschamps in difficulty?
“Coach Courbis” is also quite worried about what happens next for the 2918 world champion coach. He explains: “We are still going to look at Didier Deschamps. The Didier Deschamps who has just announced that, in a year and a half, ‘goodbye, thank you’. We will endure for a year and a half the comparison between Deschamps, what he did, what he should have done, what ‘Zizou’ would have done in the team compositions. Deschamps, is he going to make the same team compositions now knowing that he had the courage, the nerve, to announce that in a year and a half he would disappear? »
A contested coach after a catastrophic Euro 2024 in terms of football (whatever the journey to the semi-finals of the competition in Germany), Deschamps will manage this new “problem” during the international window in March. The Blues of Kylian Mbappé (probably returning as captain) will face Croatia in the quarter-finals of the League of Nations (first leg in Split on the 20th, return on the 23rd at the Stade de France), in order to qualify for the Final Four of the competition next June.
