Kyle Fletcher gets candid about Will Ospreay.
While many fans may know Kyle Fletcher for his tag team work, the tail end of 2024 set him up for a major singles push, with his former United Empire stablemate Will Ospreay as his AEW first pay-per-view opponent. This in-ring meeting took shape at AEW Full Gear, one month after Fletcher betrayed Ospreay during an International Championship three-way at AEW WrestleDream.
Despite his newfound hatred for Ospreay, especially after feeling overshadowing by him, Fletcher admits that Ospreay greatly eased the stress of his first big singles PPV match.
“I am gonna hate giving him his credit. But Will Ospreay has been an even bigger mentor than he probably even realises,” Fletcher told Fox Sports AU. “I very much believe that if it weren’t for Will, I would not be in a position that I am now – which because I hate his guts, I hate giving him the credit, and I can’t wait to punch him in the face – but not even just as a friend, but being in the ring with him and him being my first big singles pay per view match.
“The fact that it was him made that whole experience so much easier, because when I was in the ring, I almost wasn’t stressed. I just know him so well. He knows me so well,” Fletcher continued. “I know where he’s going to be before he’s even there. That was just another thing that I didn’t even have to be worried about. I could just be in there and focus on me and do my thing.”
At Full Gear, Fletcher emerged victorious. The following month at AEW Worlds End, Ospreay evened the score with a win in the semifinals of the Continental Classic. Looking ahead, the pair will meet again at Grand Slam Australia, this time in tag team competition. Ospreay has found a partner in Kenny Omega. Meanwhile, Fletcher will have Konosuke Takeshita in his corner. Additionally, he marks a homecoming.
