Diego Simeone, the Atlético coach, was keen to defend his striker Julian Alvarez, who has not yet scored with the Matelassiers.

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is confident that Julian Alvarez will eventually find the back of the net. He is not at all worried about his current poor form.

The €81 million signing from Manchester City has yet to make the goal shake. Similar to what Kylian Mbappé experienced at Real, the Argentinian is slow to find his feet in Madrid. Simeone is not at all concerned about this, however: “Julián is fantastic. He will help us a lot.”

Alvarez compared to Griezmann

El Cholo also wanted to point out that Antoine Griezmann also needed time to adapt to the Rojiblancos’ game: ”

We have to help him so that things happen naturally. It took (Antoine) Griezmann a few months to get used to it. Julián is not Antoine, but soon what he wants and what we all want will happen, that is, a goal from him.”

As a reminder, last season, on the City side, Alvarez was particularly prolific. In addition to being the player who played the most matches, the 2022 world champion was the third most decisive player with 19 goals scored and 13 assists provided.
