Lee Sharpe has backed his former club Manchester United to beat Man City in the Community Shield at Wembley.

Although the Community Shield is a glorified friendly match, it’s the final preparation clash ahead of the competitive season and both teams will be aiming to start the new Premier League campaign strongly.

City won the Premier League last season but were beaten in the FA Cup final against United, hence why both teams meet at Wembley on Saturday.

Speaking to Safest Casino Sites, as cited by DAZN, Sharpe praised Erik ten Hag’s tactics from the FA Cup final last season and backed the Reds to get another win over their bitter rivals.

“Last May in the FA Cup final I thought Erik ten Hag got his tactics spot on,” Sharpe said. “I don’t think we saw the strongest Manchester City side, both mentally or physically, so I’d expect a different performance from them this weekend.

“It’ll be a difficult game and I’d expect Ten Hag to play some of the academy boys like we’ve seen in pre-season – some of the senior players won’t be up to speed after featuring for their international teams.

“I’m anticipating a really good game – I’m going to go for a draw in normal time and United to win on penalties!”

The team will see on Saturday won’t be too difficult to the team we see take on Fulham the following week in the Premier League opener.
