Dikembe Mutombo’s Cause of Death: How the Late Basketbal Star Died

The National Basketball Association world is mourning the loss of Hall of Dikembe Mutombo, who was announced on Monday, September 30, to have died. The NBA confirmed his passing and remembered him by noting in a statement released by NBA commissioner, Adam Silver, posted on X that read, “Dikembe Mutombo was simply larger than life. On the court, he was one of the greatest shot blockers and defensive players in the history of the NBA. Off the floor, he poured his heart and soul into helping others.”

While the 62-year-old commissioner shared his condolences, the organization went on to reveal his cause of death. The tweet on X read,“NBA Global Ambassador and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo passed away today at the age of 58 from brain cancer. He was surrounded by his family.” 

This comes after he underwent treatment for a brain tumor back in 2022. In a statement posted by the NBA on the social platform formerly known as Twitter, during that time it read, ““He is receiving the best care possible from a collaborative team of specialists in Atlanta and is in great spirits as he begins treatment.”

The late Hall of Fame member, who passed away at 58 years old, was a legend in the sports field as he played with six different teams throughout his time playing for the NBA from the 90s to the late 2000s – Denver Nuggets, Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, and the Houston Rockets.
