Diogo Dalot has become one of the first names on the Manchester United team sheet over the past two seasons.

First, it was a matter of cementing a place in the team at right-back, but due to injuries, Dalot has had to fill the void at left-back.

There are still elements of Dalot’s game that need to improve but there is no denying that he is one of the team’s most influential players right now.

Dalot spoke to club media via ManUtd.com about being named the Players’ Player of the Year last season. It was a true milestone to mark how far he has come as a player after joining the club with plenty of promise from FC Porto in 2018.

“I would say it was probably one of the proudest moments that I had at this club, especially because it was a recognition from my team-mates, those who I spend the most time with. Apart from my family!

“They see me every day, they see the work that I put in every day, and that recognition is also a proud moment for me because it makes me feel that I’m doing the right things. It was special.”

The days of Dalot being looked upon as a prospect are gone. He has now transitioned into a senior professional under Erik ten Hag and it’s good to see he carries the responsibilities of that.

He added: “It’s something that’s becoming part of me now. I think it came in a natural way. I don’t force it; I just feel that being here for this long brings me experience at the club. Playing a lot helps me to be in that position as well. I think it’s something that came naturally, and I think it’s helpful for me and for the club. So it’s something that I enjoy.”

United are back in action on Thursday night when they travel to face Fenerbahce in the Europa League.
