Matthew Vaughn, director of Argylle, is clearing things up and shutting down conspiracy theories that claim Taylor Swift wrote the book on which the film is based.

Swifties are accustomed to the “Bejeweled” singer dropping Easter eggs about her upcoming projects, and many fans believed Swift was behind the Bryce Dallas Howard-starring film. Among the Swifties convinced the pop star wrote the source material for the film was Vaughn’s daughter.

“I’m not a big internet guy, and it was actually my daughter who came up to me — this is the power of celebrity and the internet — and said, ‘You never told me Taylor wrote the book!’ ” Vaughn said in an interview with Rolling Stone. “And I’m looking at her going, ‘What are you talking about Taylor Swift wrote the book? She didn’t write the book!’”

He continued, “I was laughing because I was like, ‘It’s not true! She didn’t write the book!’ But my daughter was convinced of it.”

Jason Fuchs is credited as the screenwriter, but questions have arisen about the source material. When the project was announced, it was said the film would be based on an unreleased novel by first-time author Ellie Conway. Inconsistencies in the spelling of the author’s name only added to the confusion, with some drawing up theories that it was just a pen name and in line with the movie’s storyline.

Howard plays the character of Elly Conway, a spy novelist who then finds herself in the middle of a spy drama that resembles a lot of the situations she has written. An undercover spy shows up in her life to save her and her Scottish Fold cat Alfie, and she soon finds out nothing is what it seems.

Swift fans came to the conclusion that the author of Argylle could be her drawing some parallels like the cat that looks similar to Swift’s feline pet, Olivia Benson.

Other clues were that Swift is known to use pen names for ghostwriting, like Rihanna’s “This Is What You Came For,” which she co-wrote with her now-ex Calvin Harris under the pseudonym Nils Sjöberg.

Vaughn assures that the Argylle book is real, adding, “There is a real book … and it’s a really good book. And there is an Elly Conway who wrote the book, but it’s not Taylor Swift. And I say that because I imagine Taylor Swift has a load of people trying to jump on her bandwagon left, right and center, and I don’t want to be a part of that club.”

“I did read the conspiracies and I was like, wow, they don’t leave a stone unturned! But it’s not Taylor Swift. She definitely didn’t write the book.”
