Josep Maria Bartomeu served as the president of FC Barcelona from 2014 until his resignation in October 2020. His tenure was marked by both successes and controversies.

While Barcelona won the treble in 2015 under his presidency, the club were also accused of various scandals, including BarçaGate.

Over the past 12 months, it was alleged that Barcelona were also involved in the Negreira scandal.

Bartomeu considering a presser

In light of these controversies, Bartomeu’s image at Barcelona has been tarnished and the former president has refused to even visit the Olympic Stadium this season.

Not to mention, Bartomeu has several ongoing cases and trials against him, three relating to FC Barcelona.

The current administration, led by Joan Laporta, has constantly blamed the Bartomeu board for the club’s ongoing financial struggles.

Keeping that in mind, it appears Bartomeu is considering holding a press conference to offer various clarifications and offer his version of the truth, reports SPORT.

Bartomeu also wants to publically release details of his term at Barça. He is eager to explain various things that were done during his mandate.

Pushback from lawyers

Bartomeu’s lawyers, though, are not too keen on the former Barcelona president making an appearance in front of the media.

They recommend that Bartomeu does not make any public appearances and continue to focus on his public and professional life.

Despite Bartomeu’s desire to address the controversies surrounding his presidency and provide his perspective, his legal counsel’s caution highlights the complexity of his situation.

Any public statements, after all, could potentially impact ongoing legal proceedings and further complicate matters.
