The Producers Guild said Monday that Disney Entertainment co-chairman Dana Walden will receive the Milestone Award, given annually by the PGA for extraordinary contribution to the entertainment industry. The honor will be bestowed during the 36th annual PGA Awards on February 8.
Past recipients of the Milestone Award include the likes of Louis B. Mayer, Walt Disney and Alfred Hitchcock, and more recently Steven Spielberg, Bob Iger, Sherry Lansing, George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy, Clint Eastwood, Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, Donna Langley and Charles D. King.
“Dana Walden has made incredible contributions to the entertainment industry, overseeing the production and development of many of the most iconic and award-winning shows in history,” PGA presidents Stephanie Allain and Donald De Line said today in a joint statement. “Her leadership, first as CEO of Fox Television Group and now as co-chairman overseeing Disney’s global television portfolio, has had a major impact on the business. We are proud to recognize her exceptional and long-standing work in this industry.”
In her current role, Walden leads Disney’s full portfolio of global television assets and shares oversight of Disney’s streaming services, including Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+. She also co-runs Platform Distribution, Technology and Ad Sales. Prior to joining Disney, Walden was CEO of Fox Television Group, which included Fox Broadcasting Company, 20th Century Fox Television, Fox 21 Television Studios, Fox Consumer Products and the syndication supplier 20th Television.
“I’ve had the unbelievable good fortune of working with many of the smartest and most gifted producers in the history of the television and film industry, and I am grateful to Stephanie, Donald and the PGA for recognizing the tremendous value of those partnerships,” said Walden. “It is with great pride that I share this award with my talented colleagues at The Walt Disney Company, where the highest quality and most innovative storytelling has been produced and celebrated for over 100 years.”
Walden joins fellow honoree Chris Meledandri, the founder and CEO of Illumination, who will receive the David O. Selznick Achievement Award during the February ceremony at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles. More honorees will be announced, and nominations will begin rolling out in mid-December.
