Premiering today, the short tells a delightful story of childhood wonder, friendship, and holiday spirit—just the kind of cozy content we love to see from Disney. Set by the seaside, the story kicks off when a young boy befriends an unlikely companion—a curious octopus who attaches itself to his head! The boy, never one to back down from adventure, introduces his new buddy to life on land with a Disney twist: playing with his Buzz Lightyear action figure, tracking Santa’s route around the world, and even wielding a Jedi lightsaber. Keep reading to find out more about Taikia’s short… What’s even better? This short is packed with Easter eggs for Disney fans to spot. Keep an eye out for nods to Moana, Lilo & Stitch, Toy Story, and more fan favorites throughout the film. “The story manages to connect the feelings that you get around the holidays, and the joy, the goodwill and everything, with those same emotions and those same sensibilities you get from Disney films,” Taika said. “I think they go hand in hand and it’s the perfect match – and only Disney could have made something like this…with me.” Taika, known for directing Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit, brings his unique storytelling charm to the project, making this short a must-watch for the whole family. Adding even more magic to the mix, a 60-piece orchestra recorded a new take on “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid, creating a beautiful soundtrack that captures the octopus’ longing to explore the world. Recorded at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, the song is the perfect backdrop for this enchanting tale of holiday magic. So, grab your favorite cozy blanket, gather the family, and watch The Boy & The Octopus below. It’s a heartwarming Disney holiday treat you won’t want to miss!
