Former Nigeria defender Tajudeen Disu has been appointed as liaison officer for the Nigerian Sports and Cultural Organisation, headquartered in Newark, New Jersey, USA.
The roles the former Abiola Babes and Leventis United player is expected to play for the non-profit, non-political, and non-ethnic organisation entity effective April 1, 2024, include fostering strong relationships between the organisation and relevant stakeholders, facilitating communication and collaboration among athletes, coaches, and cultural representatives, and promoting Nigerian sports and cultural events locally and internationally.
Reacting to his appointment, which is one of several in recent years, Disu said he appreciated the gesture, which he termed another call to service, adding that his resolve to give back to the society that made him remains unwavering.
He said, “I am happy to you that I have been appointed as the liaison officer of a US-based Nigerian sports and cultural organization.” I am indeed grateful for this gesture, which is another opportunity to add value to sports development in Nigeria.
“I always want to do more each time I remember how I started in the street to become a national team player, especially as a member of the first Nigeria World Cup team to the 1983 World Youth Championship finals in Mexico, added Disu, whose benevolence extended to helping over 15 Nigerian players gain scholarships with various American universities in the late 80s and early 90s while he was studying Agricultural Economics at Alabama A&M University.
Disu has held several key positions in Nigerian football, including being recently appointed the technical director of the Lagos State Football Association.
