In Gadwal, the DM HO officials recently held an awareness program on roundworms at the old district medical and health department office. Medical staff members K. Madhusudan Reddy, P. Narendra Babu, and T. Varalakshmi informed the teachers of Gadwal Urban Anganwadi about the national deworming program.

The nationwide deworming program is set to take place on June 20, 2024, and will be conducted in every Anganwadi center, government and private schools, and government and private junior colleges. Children aged 1-2 years should sprinkle and mix 1/2 tablet of Albendazole with water, while children aged 2-19 years should chew and swallow one tablet of Albendazole.

Students are advised to take the Albendazole tablets after their mid-day meal as prescribed. If a student misses taking the tablet for any reason, a Mop-Up round will be conducted on June 27, 2024, for the remaining students. Roundworm infections in children can be caused by factors such as eating unwashed food, playing outdoors with sticks, open defecation, unhygienic environments, and contaminated water and food.

It is important to raise awareness about these factors to prevent worm infections among children. The Anganwadi teachers and health department staff provided valuable advice on hand hygiene, food hygiene, and environmental cleanliness to prevent worm infections and other diseases. Urban Health Centers, Anganwadi teachers, medical staff supervisors, community officers, Hanumanthu nurses, and others are actively participating in promoting these crucial hygiene practices.
