Jason Carter, a grandson of former United States President, Jimmy Carter, has stated that Democrat’s presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, embodies the ex-president’s legacy.
Jason, while speaking on Tuesday at the United Centre in Chicago, the venue of the DNC, said his grandfather “can’t wait to vote” for Harris.
“For my grandfather, it was never about fame, recognition, accolades or awards. His legacy is measured by the lives he has touched and the good he has done,” he stated.
“Kamala Harris carries my grandfather’s legacy. She knows what is right, and she fights for it.
“She understands that leadership is about service and not selfishness. My grandfather can’t wait to vote for Kamala Harris,” Jason affirmed.
– Bomb threats cleared –
Earlier reports by Sky News indicated that there were alleged bomb threats at some hotels near the convention.
However, NBC News has reported that the bomb threats had been cleared by the Secret Service.
“Law enforcement personnel cleared these locations, and no credible threats were found.
“Law enforcement continues to assess and investigate all threats and reminds the public to report any suspicious activity directly by calling 911,” the DNC 2024 Joint Information Centre said in a statement.
As the second day of the Democratic National Convention is underway, more prominent figures in the US political space are expected to join the bandwagon of Harris and her Vice President nominee, Tim Walz.
Among them are former US President, Barack Obama, and his wife, Michell; US Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer; Governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker; Governor of New Mexico, Michelle Lujan Grisham, among others.
– Harris’ll defend US democracy –
On Monday – the first day of the convention, former US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, said Harris would “defend” the democracy and constitution of the US.
“She will lower costs for hard-working families, open the doors wide for good paying jobs and she will restore abortion rights nationwide,” Clinton said.
