Dolly Parton & Goddaughter Miley Cyrus Are Blood Related, '9 to 5' Singer Reacts

Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus‘ bond goes deeper as the two have been revealed to being related by blood!

The 78-year-old entertainer is much more than just the godmother of the 31-year-old, they’re also distant cousins.

In a new interview, Dolly reacted to finding out they are actually blood relatives.

Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus are seventh cousins, once removed! Their common ancestor is John Brickey, born in 1740 in Virginia,” Ancestry shared in a statement.

Of their relative, the genealogy company noted, “He later moved to Blount County, Tennessee with his wife and children and remained there until his death in 1806. The Brickey family originated from France and the family came to the United States in the late 1600s.”

Both Dolly and Miley are from Tennessee!

While promoting her and her sister’s new cookbook with Access Hollywood, Dolly was shared the news of her cousin.

“Is that true? That’s amazing!” she reacted. “Well, we’re so close, Miley and I. I would’ve thought we would’ve been at least third cousins, 10 times removed.”

“I’m sure she’ll get a kick out of that, but it doesn’t surprise me because she does feel like family,” Dolly added of Miley.

Over the years, the two singers have worked together many times, including on Hannah Montana, co-hosting New Year’s Eve, and even more recently, releasing a duet of Miley‘s “Wrecking Ball” on Dolly‘s album Rockstar.
