The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights has urged Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, not to politicise education, emphasising that beneficial policies and programmes from previous administrations should be upheld.

The CDHR, in a statement signed by its Osun State Chairman, Emmanuel Olowu, on Friday, called on Adeleke to reinstate the essay competition, an annual programme celebrating the state’s creation.

The competition, introduced during former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s administration, had over 3,500 participants from secondary and tertiary institutions in the state.

However, the programme has not been held since Adeleke assumed office in 2022.

Responding to the discontinuation, the CDHR criticised the abandonment of effective policies and programmes, asserting that the essay competition, being highly educational, should not have been discontinued.

The statement read in part, “We frown at the abandonment of projects and discontinuation of good policies and programmes of past administrations by a new government.

“Programme like essay competition which was very educative shouldn’t be discontinued for any reason. Perhaps, a better alternative should have been in place if the current administration finds anything missing in the programme.”
