Donald Trump’s New York Criminal Trial To Start On March 25 After Judge Rejects Effort To Delay Or Dismiss Case

Donald Trump‘s criminal trial in New York will proceed on March 25, after a judge rejected the former president’s efforts to dismiss the case.

Trump is facing charges including falsification of business records tied to the hush money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels in advance of the 2016 election.

Trump was in the courtroom today as the judge issued his ruling, according to CNN and other news outlets. He has plead not guilty and accuses Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of political motivations for indicting him last year. Trump repeated those claims to reporters outside of court this morning.

The state trial is one of four criminal proceedings that Trump faces this year. A federal criminal trial over charges that Trump conspired to remain in office despite losing the 2020 presidential election has been paused as his attorneys pursue appeals. Another federal case, over Trump’s withholding of classified documents and obstructing an investigation, is scheduled to start in May.

In Georgia, Trump is among a number of defendants facing racketeering and other charges involving the vote count in that state. Also today, a judge is holding a misconduct hearing on whether the Fulton County District Attorney, Fani Willis, and special prosecutor Nathan Wade misused public funds. They only recently disclosed that they had a romantic relationship.
