Former President Donald Trump appeared to be opening the door again to a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris that is not sponsored by Fox News.

Over the weekend, Trump floated a Sept. 4 debate on Fox News, and claimed that a previously scheduled Sept. 10 ABC News event had been “terminated.” But that was interpreted as Trump backing out of the latter, as Harris’ campaign claimed that he was “running scared” and “running straight to Fox News to bail him out.”

On Fox and Friends this morning, Trump suggested that something was in the works, albeit he hinted that it would not be on the network.

“We’ll be debating her in the pretty near future. It’s going to be announced fairly soon,” Trump said. “I would like to see it on Fox, by the way. I would like to see it, my preference, would be Fox, but we have to debate.”

Host Steve Doocy asked Trump has been working on something behind the scenes “because we haven’t heard about it yet.”

“No, but I can tell you that every network loves me very much right now. They love me very much. I have never been so loved by CBS and ABC fake news. And by NBC. They are all in love with me so that I say yes because it is up to me, obviously, also. The most important thing is that we get debates. I think debates are very important.”

“I’d love to see it on Fox, but you know, it takes two to tango,” he said, adding that “two people have to agree.”

Trump had also claimed that there was a “conflict of interest” with the ABC News event, as he has sued one of the network’s anchors, George Stephanopoulos. But that litigation was filed in March, before Trump agreed in May to the ABC News event when Joe Biden was the presumptive Democratic nominee. ABC News also announced that the moderators of the event would be David Muir and Linsey Davis, not Stephanopoulos.

Harris has agreed to the Sept. 10 date on ABC News.
