Inter-Party Advisory Committee in Osun State, on Tuesday, appealed to the Federal Government not to withhold monthly allocation due to the local government areas in the state from the Federation Account.

Osun IPAC Chairman, Mr. Victor Akande, made the appeal while reading a communique issued after stakeholders met the political parties in Osun, held at the office of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission in Osogbo, the state capital.

He said OSSIEC was already in the process of conducting elections in local government areas in the state.

Akande, who was flanked by the leaders of other 16 political parties including the All Progressives Congress, and the Peoples Democratic Party, said the parties have also passed a vote of confidence in OSSIEC.

He added that the parties had also resolved at the meeting to ensure a peaceful campaign before the poll.

“We are telling the Federal Government that there is no need to withhold the allocation of local government areas in Osun because OSSIEC has started the process of conducting elections since January before the idea of going to the Supreme Court would come up.

“Therefore, so far Osun is already in the process and has not erred on the wrong side of the law. The law states that election notice should be given 360 days before the conduct of the election.

“Therefore, we are in tandem with the extant laws. There is no need for the Federal Government to withhold the allocation of the local government areas in Osun State because we are in the process of conducting local government elections,” Akande said.

Speaking on the readiness of the parties to support OSSIEC to conduct a credible election, Akande further said, “All political parties agreed that OSSIEC has convinced us that it would be transparent and conduct a credible, free, and fair election come Federal, 2025.

“We are giving the commission our vote of confidence today. We promise to give all the support the commission will need so that the election will be good enough to be a reference point all over Nigeria. We have confidence in OSSIEC and we give it the hand of fellowship.

“We trust the commission to conduct a free and fair election. There will be a peaceful campaign and we political parties have all agreed to relate it to our members to maintain peace during the campaign. We are in support of OSSIEC’s campaign against cyber crime, drug abuse, and cultism.”
