The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Agyemang Badu II, has called on Ghanaians living abroad to pool their resources and invest in the country for social economic growth.
He said it was crucial that Ghanaians living abroad invested in the mining sector to ensure that a greater portion of revenue from gold, and other resources remain in the country to drive development and growth.
Similarly, the Dormaahene expressed his willingness to provide land for investments that would foster economic collaboration to spur the development that every Ghanaian aspires.
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Agyemang Badu II made the call in an address at fundraising dinner hosted by the Council of Bono and Ahafo Citizens in America (COBAANA) in Newark, New Jersey to mobilise resources for a dialysis centre to be established in Sunyani, Bono Regional capital next year.
Harnessing expertise and resources, the Dormaahene stressed the importance of repealing the restrictive law barring Ghanaians with dual citizenship from becoming parliamentarians.
Their international exposure and expertise, he noted, would significantly bring valuable perspectives and skills to the legislative process.
He highlighted the substantial economic impact of remittances from diasporan Ghanaians, emphasising their right to participate in shaping the country’s laws and policies.
A notable highlight of the event was the pledge by Dr George V. Samson, President and Chief Executive Officer of World Medical Relief, to donate $5 million worth of medical equipment and medicines to the forthcoming dialysis centre in Sunyani.
There were a number of pledges and contributions made by prominent sons from the Bono and Ahafo Regions including Dr Nick Danso-Abram, Executive President of Nick Holdings $ 50,000, the Dormaahene and Sumamanhene $10,000 and the Bono Regional House of Chiefs making a pledge of $ 5,000.
Dormaahene was accompanied by the Omanhene of Suma Traditional Area, Odeneho Dr Affram Brempong II, who underscored the significance of traditional leadership in promoting national development, international cooperation, and cultural exchange.
Taking advantage of the platform, the Dormaahene extended an invitation to Ghanaians, non-Ghanaians, and Africans in the diaspora to join him and Dormaaman in celebrating his silver jubilee as well as the renowned Dormaa Kwafie festival scheduled for December 2024, with the climax on December 21, at Dormaa Ahenkro.
Since assuming office, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Agyemang Badu II has made significant strides in various spheres of national life, including: environmental stewardship through reforestation and conservation initiatives.
