Drake has filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group and the music company is firing back at the rapper. In a surprising move, Drake‘s Frozen Moments LLC “accused UMG of launching an illegal ‘scheme’ involving bots, payola and other methods to boost the numbers” for Kendrick Lamar‘s diss track “Not Like Us.” UMG represents both artists. The song was part of the two rappers’ feud and Kendrick accused Drake of pedophilia on the track. Drake is accusing UMG of conspiring with Spotify to make “Not Like Us” even more popular by accepting reduced licensing rates for the song and using bots to make the song more successful. No amount of contrived and absurd legal arguments in this pre-action submission can mask the fact that fans choose the music they want to hear,” the company said in a statement to Variety. Kendrick just dropped a surprise album.
