Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has asserted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will produce the next Governor of Abia State.

Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency under the APC, made this bold claim in an interview, declaring, “This will be the last time that a Labour governor will govern Abia State. The next governor of Abia State will be an APC governor.”

Kalu, 53, acknowledged his friendship with the current Abia State Governor, Alex Otti of the Labour Party, but made it clear that he intends for the APC to take over in the 2027 elections. “We are friends, we work together, but I will not be the number six citizen of the country while another party governs my state,” Kalu stated.

He expressed confidence in the APC’s chances, citing the federal government’s efforts under President Bola Tinubu. “My government is working hard, the president is working hard, and Abia will repay the president,” Kalu said. He highlighted the establishment of the South East Development Commission and appointments of Abians into key roles as reasons for the state’s loyalty to the APC.

Kalu emphasized that the APC would determine the next governor of Abia State, regardless of the candidate. “One thing I know is the platform—APC—will produce the next governor of Abia State,” he declared.

While acknowledging that Governor Otti has performed well compared to other governors, Kalu insisted that Abia should align with the APC to better leverage federal power for the state’s development.
