Drew McIntyre has been on an absolute tear over the past year, as many view him as one of the top WWE Superstars and a natural locker room leader now. That being said, McIntyre has dismissed claims he does backstage politicking in WWE.
While speaking to The Law, Drew McIntyre denied that he plays politics backstage in WWE. He knows that many people try to get on Triple H’s good side, but he doesn’t do that. McIntyre stated that he talks to Triple H when needed, but his main focus is doing his job and following the plan.
McIntyre says he doesn’t push for special treatment or argue about wins and losses. If Triple H wants something done a certain way, he listens and makes changes. If Triple H likes something, McIntyre takes note and improves it.
“I don’t do most of that crap. There are a lot of people that—I mean, I see them every week. I’ve had this conversation with Hunter himself. People line up and are all over him, and he’s got so little time in the day—such a busy person.
I always tell him, ‘You know the deal with us. We need to chat about stuff,’ and we do chat when we get the opportunity. But when it comes to weekly TV, he sets out the plan, I execute the plan. If he feels like something needs to be done a certain way, he’ll tell me. If I did something he didn’t love, he’ll let me know. If he likes something and wants a little more, he’ll tell me.”
The Scottish Warrior believes in hard work and letting his performance speak for itself. Instead of trying to change decisions backstage by kissing ass, he works with the creative team and makes sure the story makes sense and then goes out and does his best.
“But I’m not in there kissing ass, saying, ‘Well, I should do this,’ or ‘I’m not going to lose here, I’m going to do that.’ There are other people who do that, and I just could never do it. It’s just never been me. I’m not a kiss-ass.
You give me the ball, I’ll put it in the back of the net. So when it comes to the politicking stuff, that’s just not my bag. I’ll work with the creative team, I’ll make sure everything lines up story-wise in my mind, we’re all on the same page, and then I go out and execute. Right?”
As for Drew McIntyre right now, he is determined to win the Royal Rumble this year and punch his ticket to WrestleMania 41 in order to become a World Champion again. Therefore, we’ll have to see if he can accomplish that goal as it’s clear he will never politic his way to the top.
