Drew McIntyre reflects on his journey from “other” to main-eventer.
On June 12, 2014, Drew McIntyre was released from his WWE contract. Ten years later, though, “The Scottish Warrior” now finds himself in line for a major world title match at WWE Clash at the Castle.
In a new video posted to Twitter, McIntyre looked back on the WWE.com article that confirmed his exit from the company. In assessing it, McIntyre particularly focused on the headline, which his categorized his name under the umbrella of “other.”
“‘Brodus Clay, Evan Bourne, Teddy Long, Curt Hawkins and other WWE Superstars released,'” McIntyre read. “It was ten years ago today. I am one of the ‘other.’ I’m not even in the picture here. Ten years ago was the best thing that happened to me, because I ended up right back here in ICW. I found myself as a performer. I found myself as a man, grew business outside of WWE, and ten years later, main event Clash at the Castle. Not bad for ‘other.'”
While it is unconfirmed if McIntyre will officially headline the upcoming Clash at the Castle event, he will indeed be challenging for another world title, specifically WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The current champion, Damian Priest, won the title by successfully cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase on McIntyre at WrestleMania 40. Now, McIntyre has an opportunity to regain it.
