Drew McIntyre is currently regarded as WWE’s top antagonist due to his recent confrontations with CM Punk and other competitors. McIntyre has also opened up about the numerous sacrifices he’s had to make as part of his WWE lifestyle.
In an interview with SHAK Wrestling of CBS Sports, the current number one contender for Seth Rollins’ WWE World Heavyweight Championship shared about a recent experience where he had the opportunity to reunite with many of his friends in Scotland. Some of these friends he hadn’t seen in over a decade because he was attending the wedding of his longtime friend, Blair.
“I had seen people who were friends who I had not seen in 20 years. I’ve been gone for legitimately 17 years from Scotland to growing up in America. I was part of WWE. It hit me. ‘Wow, I’ve missed a lot. I feel kind of guilty about it.'”
McIntyre reflected that he had always viewed himself as the one making sacrifices by leaving home, traveling to shows, and dedicating himself to becoming a professional wrestler. However, his recent visit made him realize that it has actually been his family and friends, not himself, who have been making the sacrifices all along.
“They gave up their son, their nephew, their brother, and their uncle who has missed so many important events because he’s chasing his dream and they encourage me to chase my dream. I really started wising up to that and I felt very guilty.”
We will have to wait and see whether Drew McIntyre will ultimately prevail over Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40 and become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion, as many fans feel he more than deserves it now.
