‘Drunk On Love’: New Series From Malcolm D. Lee’s Blackmaled Productions In Development With Universal Television; Attica And Tembi Locke To Pen Script

EXCLUSIVE: Malcolm D. Lee’s Blackmaled Productions, announced today a new drama series in development with Peacock titled, Drunk on Love. This latest venture is part of Lee’s first-look deal with Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and marks a step in amplifying the voices of creatives of color within the industry.

Drunk on Love is based on the New York Times bestselling novel by Jasmine Guillory, of the same name and follows Margot Noble, whose life is turned upside-down when she inherits a struggling vineyard in Napa Valley along with her estranged brother, Elliot. Yanked back to the small town she thought she’d escaped from, Margot meets Luke Williams, whose life has also recently been upended by his mysterious departure from the tech company he founded. When the two of them lock eyes at a late-night tasting room, sparks fly. It’s an encounter that will change both of their lives and the future of Noble Vineyard. 

Sisters Attica Locke (From Scratch, When They See Us, Little Fires Everywhere) and Tembi Locke (From Scratch), to pen the series as writers and executive producers.  Lee will serve as an executive producer alongside Dominique Telson, with Jasmine Guillory acting as co-executive producer. Michael Allen, Vice President of Television at Blackmaled Productions, will oversee the project.

Lee is known for creating The Best Man franchise, including the eight-part series finale The Best Man: The Final Chapters on Peacock, in addition to directing and producing 2017 comedy Girls Trip.
