Dustin Rhodes wants Tony Khan to create something like WWE’s new ID program.
On October 29, WWE announced the launch of WWE Independent Development. Additionally, it is known as WWE ID for short. The program is “a first-of-its-kind developmental program designed to provide up-and-coming independent wrestlers a pathway to a potential career in WWE” in the official announcement. A number of wrestling schools are now affiliated with WWE. They are to be used as a pathway to the big time for these indie stars to WWE.
A number of top independent talents, like former AEW star Kylie Rae, have been given these deals by the WWE already. Dustin Rhodes wants Tony Khan to get in on the action before WWE hoovers up all the top talent.
Dustin Rhodes spoke with WFFA (H/T to Fightful for the transcription) about the WWE ID program. He revealed that WWE has not reached out to him to work with the Rhodes Wrestling Academy. This is likely due to his status with AEW.
He added that he would love Tony Khan to launch his own version of the program. Dustin Rhodes thinks it would be “cool” to have with some of the wrestling schools often associated with AEW to be a part of it.
“I don’t think through WWE because I’m here and I think that’s probably the reason they haven’t reached out.” Dustin Rhodes said. “That’s because I’m contracted with All Elite Wrestling. I would love for Tony to do that with us where we have a little type thing, that would be kind of cool for some of our schools, especially me since I’m like one of the originals here.”
Dustin Rhodes launched the Rhodes Wrestling Academy earlier this year. They put on their debut show on November 21st in Leander, Texas.
