EXCLUSIVE: Dylan O’Brien is set to star opposite Rachel McAdams in Sam Raimi‘s Send Help, the horror-thriller from 20th Century Studios, which he is producing and directing.

Billed as a two-hander horror-thriller set on an island, the story is somewhere between Rob Reiner’s Stephen King adaptation Misery and Robert Zemeckis’ classic CastawaySend Help is based on an original script by Baywatch scribes Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. Zainab Azizi will also produce under the Raimi Productions banner, and the film is expected to nab a theatrical release.

O’Brien is coming off a banner year in 2024 with a diverse slate of projects that speaks to his proclivity for championing unique and personal storytelling.

O’Brien is one of the stars of Jason Reitman’s highly-acclaimed film Saturday Night, which chronicles the behind-the-scenes drama leading up to the first ever broadcast of Saturday Night Live. O’Brien received outstanding reviews for his portrayal of a young Dan Aykroyd in the film, which premiered in the U.S. at the Telluride Film Festival and in Canada at the Toronto International Film Festival.

O’Brien also starred in Caddo Lake, a thriller from producer M. Night Shyamalan and the writing-directing team of Logan George and Celine Held. Additionally in 2024, O’Brien had a stand-out guest appearance on Julio Torres’s wildly creative television series Fantasmas, which premiered on Max in June.

In January 2024, O’Brien premiered the film Ponyboi in competition at the Sundance Film Festival. Ponyboi went on to win the Grand Jury Award at NewFest, New York’s LGBTQ+ film festival. It will be released in 2025.

O’Brien will return to Sundance to premiere the film Twinless, one of ten films in the U.S. Dramatic Competition this year. O’Brien also served as an exec producer on the film.
