Dyson Is Finally Releasing Headphones That Don’t Look Absolutely Ridiculous

Last year, we saw the launch of the $1,000 Dyson Zone, which combined an air purifier with headphones. Let’s just say we weren’t too crazy about them. Today, the company announced its new pair of Dyson OnTrac headphones, which don’t look absolutely hilarious, for $500.

The headphones’ customizability is the feature that most attracted me. Both the ear caps and ear cushions on the OnTrac are customizable, so you can swap them with another color whenever you like. You can opt for a matte or metallic option, priced at $50.

There are four colorways for the headband, and if you buy the OnTrac on the Dyson website, you’ll also be able to snag two exclusive colors. I’ve got to admit, the color combinations do look pretty exciting. And I can’t wait to match the cups and cushions to my outfit for the day.

Another key feature of the OnTrac is the frequency range. Typically, headphones go from 20Hz to 20,000Hz, but Dyson’s upcoming cans offer an extended frequency range of 6Hz to 21kHz. While the company has been touting the feature and seems sure about it translating to an enhanced experience, I am skeptical. The human ear can detect sounds only in the 20 to 20kHz range, so I’m unsure whether the extended range will benefit consumers. Generally, the extension is considered a gimmick, but we will get our hands on one of these soon to see if it works.

Dyson also guarantees “all-day comfort” owing to the microfiber cushions and high-rebound foam they sport. The company also claims the ANC will be “best-in-class,” though we will have to hear that for ourselves.
