Kwan Pa Band has revealed the motive behind their venture into the palm wine music genre.
Speaking on Evibes Musical Band Series, the band's leader, Asah Nkansah, stated that they realised Ghana was losing its rich Palm Wine music heritage, which sparked their desire to revive the genre.
According to the band, if not for the pioneering efforts of legendary musicians Agya Koo Nimo and Agya Osei Korankye, the palm wine music tradition would have faded away.
“We got into palm wine music because we realised that we were losing some of this beautiful music traditions we have in Ghana. There are different types. It's not just palm wine music. We have kokomba music and others, but we realised that we were losing touch with these things.
"But for Agya Koo Nimo and people like Agya Osei Korankye, we may have probably lost palm wine music. So we said let us come onboard and ensure continuity and make sure posterity knows what palm wine music and its for us a people,” he recounted.
Kwan Pa believes in the assertion that Africa has a very rich music culture that is worth flaunting to the world.
Kwan Pa is known for performing a genre of African indigenous music called palm wine music, which incorporates intricate but thrilling chords and various chord progressions on the Guitar and Seprewa (Indigenous harp-lute) all superimposed on different rhythms, including Highlife and Adowa rhythms, etc, which are emphasised by additional percussions.
