EC sets Sept.9 to Sept.13 as nomination periodfor 2024 presidential, parliamentary elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that nominations for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections would open on Monday, September 9 and closed on Friday, September 13.

Filing fee for presidential candidates is set at GH¢100,000, with a reduced fee of GH¢75,000 for female candidates and persons with disabilities while parliamen­tary candidates would pick the forms at GH¢10,000.

In a press release issued yes­terday, the Commission stated that interested candidates could download nomination forms from the EC’s website starting today, Friday.

Signed by the EC deputy Chairman in charge of Opera­tions , Samuel Tettey, the state­ment said the exercise was in accordance with Regulations 6, 7, and 9 of the 2020 Public Elec­tions Regulations (C.I 127).

It said nomination forms would be accepted between 9:00 am and 12:00 noon, and continued from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm each day during the nomination period.

“All enquiries relating to the Presidential Election should be addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and the Parliamentary Elections to the Returning Officers of the Constit­uencies where the candidates seek election,” it said.

The statement said a completed Presidential Nomination Forms for each candidate for President shall be signed by the Candidate and not less than two persons who are registered voters of each District Assembly.

It said the forms which should designate the person to serve as Vice President should be in quadruplicate and the same de­livered personally by the Presi­dential Candidate or any two of the registered voters who signed the Nomination Forms for the Candidate.

In addition to the completed Nomination Forms, the EC said the Candidate should submit four copies of a recent post-card pho­tograph against a red background showing the full face and ears of the Candidate to the Returning Officer.

For parliamentary candidates, the statement said the complet­ed Nomination Forms must be delivered in quadruplicate by the candidate or their proposer/sec­onder to the Returning Officer of the respective constituency.

It said the forms should be signed by two registered voters as Proposer and Seconder, and sup­ported by 18 additional registered voters.

It said the Candidates must also provide four recent post-card sized photographs against a red background, showing their full face and ears.
