The Eddie Howe Crystal Palace Press Conference has taken place.
The Newcastle United Head Coach speaking to the media ahead of Wednesday night’s match at Selhurst Park.
United would ensure remaining in sixth with a victory, with rivals for top six Man U playing at home to Sheffield United also on Wednesday, whilst tonight Chelsea away at Arsenal.
The Eddie Howe Crystal Palace Press Conference highlights:
“The players had a couple of days off.
“We have tried to use the time productively; the lads are feeling good about themselves.
“We don’t want to lose our rhythm.
“We have tried to keep everything the same, we have tried to make sure we are physically where we need to be when the game kicks off.”
Eddie Howe on Crystal Palace:
“They have had two very good performances, that has been coming for them.
“Credit to the new manager who has come in and played a new system that has got the best out of the players they have.
“For us, we can’t underestimate this is going to be a difficult game against a team in form.
“We know we will have to be at our best levels to win.”
Eddie Howe asked about Bruno Guimaraes going 14 games in a row without a yellow card, including 11 of them in the Premier League, which now 32 PL games has now gone by, a tenth yellow won’t not trigger a two match ban:
“He is always setting new goals for himself.
“Bruno is very motivated to help the team.
“His form has been very good and the yellow card situation he found himself in, refocused his game.
“It was a healthy thing.”
Eddie Howe on Lewis Miley:
“The decision was made on Lewis to protect him long-term.
“We won’t see Lewis again this season.
“Even if there was a chance, we took that away quite early on with his age, we are just thinking about his long-term prospects.”
Eddie Howe on Callum Wilson:
“Callum has trained really well this week; it has been good to have him back.
“The energy and quality that he brings, he has come back looking really good.
“We anticipate he will be able to hit the ground running and make an impact for us.”
Eddie Howe on Joe Willock:
“We have decided that a period where he strengthens the area around his achilles will benefit him more.
“The long-term view was taken, we will get him right for next season.
“Surgery wouldn’t be beneficial for him in this situation.
“It is frustrating for Joe, but hopefully we can get to the situation where he is playing freely next season.”
Eddie Howe asked about Group of Death opponents Borussia Dortmund and PSG now playing each other in the semi-finals for a place in the Champions League final:
“That wasn’t lost on me, both clubs getting through to the semi-finals.
“That gives credibility to our Champions League group, not that it needed it…
“Part of you does go back and thinks ‘what if?’…
“So things could have been different but you have to live in the here and now.”
