Eddie Howe so impressive, as usual.
Managers get credibility by speaking the truth when they win AND especially when their team loses.
This is where the likes of Eddie Howe scores so highly, just like Kevin Keegan and Sir Bobby Robson before him at Newcastle United.
After the 4-1 victory on Wednesday over Urawa Red Diamonds, Eddie Howe refused to go overboard, giving praise where due but also pointing out a lot of things to work on ahead of the new season.
On Saturday, Newcastle United once again had some positives, despite the 2-0 defeat, however, Eddie Howe not looking to make excuses for the friendly loss.
Eddie Howe said that as individuals some players played very well despite the defeat, however, the Newcastle United Head Coach also declaring that as a team ‘…we were off where we have been.’
Eddie Howe reflects on Yokohama F Marinos 2 Newcastle 0:
“A good test for us.
“A difficult game.
“Very good opposition.
“Certain individuals did very well but team-wise today… I thought that we were off where we have been.
“I thought that we started brightly and then faded after we conceded.
“Lots of stuff to work on and improve.
“Overall, disappointed with the result of course, but pleased that we have come through with no injuries.”
Alexander Isak needed treatment early in the first-half after colliding with the keeper and landing on his shoulder, carrying on until half-time when subbed (along with six others!).
Eddie Howe asked about that Isak substitution and whether due to injury?
“That substitution (at half-time) was scheduled for him.
“Of course he went over on his shoulder early in the game and it was sore, but he was fine to carry on, we don’t envisage any problems.
“But of course, we need to check out the mechanism and how his shoulder is, though I think he looks OK.”
Eddie Howe asked about Lloyd Kelly who played his first Newcastle United minutes today:
“I thought that he did well.
“A composed debut.
“I was pleased for him.
“I was pleased with certain aspects (of how Lloyd Kelly played).”
