The Magpies could be forced into selling one of their star players after the club confirmed losses of £150m in their latest financial reports.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are desperate to land a new striker and have been linked to Isak with a move for their top target Ivan Toney thought to be unlikely.
Howe was asked about Arsenal’s interest in Isak during his post-match press conference after the Swedish star scored in the 3-2 loss to Manchester City.
‘The goal [against City] was very reminiscent of Alan Shearer,’ Howe responded. ‘The type of finish that he delivered.
‘He can go on to achieve incredible things in his career. He has got so much more to offer.
‘He’s still getting back to 100 per cent fit, he is not totally there yet after his injury troubles this season.
‘But the last two performances and the goals he has scored offers a glimpse into his capabilities. He’s an all-round striker in my opinion.’
Howe, speaking to TNT Sports about his side’s home defeat to City, added: ‘It was a difficult second half. We were a real threat and it was end-to-end. The second half was more difficult.
‘We had chances in the game. We had a slow start but we could have scored more. Their quality told in the end. De Bruyne is obviously a world class player.’
