Eddie Kingston wanted to borrow from a controversial Terry Funk angle, but Tony Khan said no.

Eddie Kingston has openly talked about his fandom of the late, great Terry Funk. Funk was a trailblazer in many ways, and this sometimes led to some controversy. The legend had an infamous angle with Ric Flair at Clash of the Champions VIII, as he attempted to suffocate Flair with a plastic bag. The spot sparked backless from Turner executives, and years later, Kingston’s hope of borrowing from the spot may have been denied for that very reason.

Speaking with Phil Schneider for The Ringer, Eddie Kingston noted that he pitched doing the plastic bag spot, but Tony Khan has said no.

“Trust me, I know how Turner is scared about that because I’ve asked about the plastic bag several times,” Eddie Kingston said. “It was always walking in and Tony [Khan] going, ‘We’re not doing the plastic bag.’”

During the feud in question, Kingston faced Chris Jericho. They clashed in a Barbed Wire Everywhere Death Match in July 2022.

Kingston has been out of action since May. He suffered ACL and meniscus tears during his match against Gabe Kidd at NJPW Resurgence. Kingston is set to be sidelined for the next several months.
