EdF: Didier Deschamps reassures his defense

This is perhaps the biggest question when we look at the list of players called up by Didier Deschamps for Euro 2024. What defense does he intend to start with, and in what condition are the players in question? Konaté lost playing time with Liverpool, Upamecano had disappeared from circulation at Bayern after a catastrophic month of February, Lucas Hernandez is not there. The coach acknowledged that questions could arise, but he maintains confidence in all the players called up, and in particular Benjamin Pavard, who could be called upon to play in central defense.

“Konaté played less towards the end, even if they are two players who played a lot during the season. They finished early too. They know why they are there. Before coming here, we make sure to maintain ourselves and prepare. Holder or not… Pavard is part of the list… All players can potentially be starters. His position as central defender? In their system at Inter, it is not always axial. Benjamin has background and experience, even if he played little in the last competition. The playing time, I won’t be able to give an equivalent to everyone. But we must keep them all involved. You never know what can happen, before and between matches. But if they are there, it is because I consider that they have their place”assured Didier Deschamps at a press conference.
