EdF: Olivier Giroud’s moving farewell message

After the elimination of the French team in the semi-final of Euro 2024 against Spain (2-1), Olivier Giroud (37 years old) has, as expected, taken his international retirement. The top scorer of the Blues with 57 goals delivered a nice message to announce the end of his adventure, via his social networks: “The dreaded moment has arrived: saying goodbye to the French team. Six years to the day after winning the World Cup. It was July 15, 2018.”he first explained.

“By joining this team, I found a second family with the players and staff. We have always supported each other, we have experienced the joys and disappointments, the victories and defeats, the laughter and tears, but always united and supportive (…) We have become a group of inseparable friends under the watchful eye of one man: the coach, Didier Deschamps, whom I thank for his trust. Despite our ups and downs, he allowed me to become the top scorer in the history of the Blues with 57 goals in 143 selections (…) My career with the French team has not always been a long, quiet river. I have doubted at times, suffered from criticism too, but deep down, I have never stopped believing in it. Work, humility, prayer have helped me get through the difficult times.”he explained, thanking the supporters after his 13 years spent in the tricolor jersey.
