The Edo State Government, in partnership with Benin Electricity Distribution Company, is set to meter approximately 500,000 homes in the state.

The Commissioner for Mining, Energy, Oil and Gas, Enaholo Ojiefo, announced this on Saturday, stating that the initiative would commence on 13 August to address the issue of estimated billing in the state.

Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with BEDC management in his office, the commissioner mentioned that the project would cover all three senatorial districts.

He noted that each home would be equipped with a government-subsidised meter, which is covered by an insurance policy. Subscribers are expected to receive their meters within 10 days after payment.

The Commissioner added that subscribers should access the payment portal on 14 August, assuring they would receive their meters promptly.

He added “The Edo State Government, in collaboration with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, will distribute meters to approximately 500,000 homes in the state.

“The exercise will begin on 13 August to eliminate the problem of estimated billing, and the project will cover all three senatorial districts.”

The management of BEDC was represented at the signing ceremony by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Kings Akuma, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Deolu Ijose.
