Ahead of September 21 Edo State governorship election, Godswill Akpabio, Umar Ganduje and Bassey Otu have called on Edo voters to vote for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Monday Okpebholo.

The chieftains of the APC made the call on Saturday during a campaign at the Sports Complex of the University of Benin.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, said the presence of federal government dignitaries and other state governors at the campaign ground was a call for Edo to join other states in benefitting from government at the center.

Akpabio said Okpebholo has the quality Edo needs for prosperity. He disclosed that already, ₦212 billion has been appropriated for the reconstruction of the Auchi-Benin road, which he said when completed, will boost economic activities in Edo State.

The presence of many Governors and other dignitaries here shows our unity of purpose towards helping Edo State to take a new direction. We have Governors from the North, East, South and West here present. Joining the party in the center will be good for the development of Edo State. I have confidence in the candidate and his running mate. They are a young team that will help secure the future of Edo State,” Akpabio said.

Speaking, the National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, said the people of Edo State have suffered in the last eight years and they need to be liberated.

He stated that only the APC governorship candidate can make Benin a modern city and grow the state’s economy.

“In the last eight years, Edo State has suffered and the state is now downgraded in terms of infrastructure, security, and general development. Benin should have the outlook of a modern city but today, it is looking for a person who will uplift the state. Monday is the person to do so,” Ganduje told Edo voters.

The Chairman of APC National Campaign Council for Edo 2024, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, told the people of Edo State that “it was time to change direction and build on the legacies of former Governor Oshiomhole so as to improve the lives of the people of the state.”

Other Dignitaries that graced the campaign rally were the Governors of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq; Imo State, Hope Uzodinma; Ondo State, Dapo Abiodun; Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule; Kogi State, Usman Ododo, and Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as well as members of the National Assembly from Edo State, and party stalwarts, among others.
