The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has disclosed that he is fully behind the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the September 21 election in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo.
Naija News reports Makinde revealed his preferred candidate on Wednesday at the groundbreaking ceremony for the upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, to international standards.
The Oyo Governor made the revelation while reacting to reactions that have trailed his absence at the PDP campaign grand finale for the forthcoming polls in Edo State.
While urging all PDP members to rally around Ighodalo, Makinde also urged the people of the state to vote for the PDP candidate in Saturday’s election.
“Tongues have been wagging about my absence at the campaign grand finale, let me declare that Seyi Makinde is 100 per cent with our candidate in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo and if Edo people want to know the difference between delicious and nutritious, they should vote for Asue Ighodalo for them to get what is nutritious,” he stated.
The position of Makinde was revealed a few days after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, ahead of the September 21 Edo State governorship election, said he wouldn’t support Governor Godwin Obaseki.
He also pledged not to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who has the support of the outgoing Edo State Governor.
Wike stated this last Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
The FCT Minister also described the governor as an ingrate.
He revealed that Governor Obaseki, approached him to seek support for his preferred successor, Ighodalo, but he told him to his face he would not because his support for Obaseki in the past earned him nothing but unending insults.
Naija News recalls that both Wike and Makinde were part of the G5 group, which refused to support the PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar.
