Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have criticized Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, along with their candidate, Asue Ighodalo, for allegedly orchestrating a smear campaign against the APC gubernatorial candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
According to the APC Vanguard leaders, Obaseki, PDP, and Ighodalo are displaying desperation due to their anticipated defeat in the upcoming gubernatorial polls.
The Network of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria recently held a press conference and petitioned law enforcement agencies, alleging that Okpebholo had thrown Naira notes at a public event. However, the APC Vanguard refuted these claims, stating that such actions were fabricated to tarnish Okpebholo’s image.
David Osarobo, the national coordinator of the Vanguard, questioned why Obaseki and Ighodalo would resort to character assassination tactics instead of focusing on substantive issues. He emphasized Okpebholo’s clean record and warned those spreading false information to apologize to the people of Edo State.
Osarobo accused the Edo State Government of financially influencing the faceless group behind the petition and urged the Inspector-General of Police to investigate and prosecute those responsible.
He further criticized Obaseki, PDP, and Ighodalo for what he termed as “cheap blackmail” and expressed confidence in the APC’s victory in the elections. Osarobo highlighted the developmental plans of the APC-led Federal Government for Edo State and called on the electorate to support Okpebholo as the next governor.
He assured that the APC Campaign Organisation would unveil plans focusing on education, healthcare, agriculture, security, tourism, food security, and economic development to uplift the lives of the people of Edo State. Osarobo urged the people to reject distractions from the opposition and remain focused on the goal of bringing positive change to the state.
