Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has praised the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its decision to reschedule the controversial February 17 governorship primary in Edo State, which resulted in three winners.
In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by Ahmad Sajoh, the head of his media office, Fayemi commended the NWC for restoring confidence among party members in the state and demonstrating the party’s commitment to selecting a popular candidate.
Fayemi hailed the Party Leader, President Bola Tinubu, for his non-interference in the matter, stating, “I wish to thank the President for allowing the party to function independently on this sensitive issue and thus assure our teeming members in Edo State that the process for the gubernatorial primaries will be free, fair, and transparent.”
However, Fayemi criticized the alleged role played by Senator Adams Oshiomhole in the primary exercise, accusing him of attempting to impose a candidate and failing to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants.
“Ideally, as a leader, he should have ensured a level playing field for all the aspirants but he was trying to impose a candidate in a manner that’s not free and fair. Earlier, Oshiomhole had attempted to eliminate some aspirants from contesting in the primaries and failed,” Fayemi asserted.
Fayemi expressed hope that the forthcoming primaries would be conducted in an open, free, and transparent manner, urging the APC to prioritize the party’s best interests in the upcoming elections.
