The Edo State chapter of the Nigerian Society of Engineers has elected its first female chairman, Tina Oigiagbe, to preside over its affairs for an initial one-year tenure.
Edo NSE Publicity Secretary, Evans Edionwe, who disclosed this to South-South PUNCH on Tuesday, described the new chairman’s emergence as historic, and one capable of moving the branch forward.
He noted that Oigiagbe also becomes the 23rd chairman of the body and has a one-year tenure, noting that she has the right to seek re-election at the end of her tenure.
He said, “I can disclose to you that the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Benin branch, has elected its first female chairman, Tina Oigiagbe, to preside over the affairs of the body for an initial one-year tenure.
“The new chairman’s emergence is historic, and one capable of moving the branch forward. She is also the 23rd chairman of the branch and her inauguration took place on October 26.
“The event, which was well attended by members of the engineering community and the general public, had the theme ‘The Impact of Engineering on Economic Growth and Development in Nigeria,’ was delivered by former Rector of the National Institute of Construction Technology and Management, Uromi Edo State, Prof. Sunday Onohaebi.”
Oigiagbe, in her speech, appreciated the outgoing chairman, Evukowhiroro Ojegba, and the leadership of the branch for their unwavering dedication to advancing the NSE.
She stated that their legacies would continue to guide her as her administration strives for greater achievements.
She added, “To my fellow engineers, I commend your expertise, resilience and unwavering pursuit of excellence and as we embark on this new chapter, our vision remains resolute; it is to elevate the Nigerian Society of Engineers as a symbol of innovation, professionalism and national development.”
Ojegba thanked the Benin engineering family for the overwhelming support accorded his administration and called for continued backing for the new administration.
Chairman of the Inauguration Planning Committee, Ethan Osaze Uzamere, a former commissioner for Roads and Bridges in the state, congratulated the NSE Benin branch on the joyous and momentous occasion.
The president of the NSE, Margaret Oguntala, who was represented by the Vice President of the NSE, South-South, Bemigho Ofoeyeno, congratulated the new chairman and her team, urging them to continue to do the society proud.
