The Accord Party’s candidate in the Edo State governorship election, Dr. Bright Enabulele, has reaffirmed his status as the authentic flagbearer of the party, urging anyone aggrieved to seek redress through legal means.
Speaking to journalists in Benin on Wednesday, Enabulele dismissed the controversy surrounding his candidacy, describing it as a distraction from the real issues of governance.
He emphasised that his focus remains on providing quality leadership to Edo State rather than engaging in what he termed “petty distractions.”
“If anyone believes they are the candidate, they should wait until after the election and challenge it in court. My priority is delivering good governance to the people of Edo, not getting caught up in trivial squabbles,” Enabulele asserted.
The Accord Party candidate assured Edo residents of his commitment to improving governance, promising to adopt global best practices to address the pressing challenges facing the state.
Enabulele, who has lived in various developed countries, explained that his return to Nigeria was fuelled by a desire to bring the progress he had witnessed abroad to his home state.
He called on Edo indigenes in the diaspora to return and contribute to the state’s development.
“I believe this is a valuable opportunity, and I thank God for it. I’m grateful to the media for giving me a platform to share my vision for Edo’s future. I won’t take this privilege lightly,” he remarked.
Addressing concerns about his campaign’s low profile compared to more popular parties, Enabulele stressed that the race wasn’t about popularity but about the ability to navigate Edo’s complexities.
“It’s not about who holds the biggest rallies or who’s most popular. It’s about competence, about those who understand the intricacies of this state. Poverty remains the biggest issue, and there are various forms of it—absolute, relative, rural, and urban. Our people are struggling with housing, healthcare, and basic needs. These are the real issues,” he explained.
Enabulele vowed to tackle these challenges head-on by employing modern governance strategies centred on accessibility, credibility, and purpose.
He pledged that his administration’s achievements would surpass those of iconic former governors like Professor Ambrose Alli and Brigadier General Samuel Ogbemudia.
“For 24 years, successive governments have toyed with the intelligence of Edo people. It’s time for competent leadership. We need an enlightened administration, one that prioritises institutions over individualism,” he stated.
When questioned about his campaign’s lack of large rallies, Enabulele dismissed the notion that big events were necessary to win over voters, pointing out that Edo’s electorate is informed and knows what qualities they desire in a leader.
“Our people don’t need flashy rallies to know who will deliver. They want quality leadership, not pomp and show,” he concluded.
